The flexible, articulated, hand-made figure of a fish fitted with garnet cabochon eyes has overlapping rows of scales engraved in detail, scrolling, substantial hand engraved fins and tail, a hinged head that opens to an internal container with unidentified stamped hallmarks. The work in .800 silver dates to the late 19th century.
Measures 1 x 5 inches. Total weight of 2.1 ozt.
Very good condition throughout, no damage, repair or heavy wear.
Provenance: The collection of Josephine Bird Hall (1888 - 1948) by descent to her son, the present owner. Josephine's father was a founder of Kansas City's Emery, Bird, Thayer Department Store.
