434: A CONTINENTAL SILVER ARTICULATED FISH JUDAICA SPICE BOX

The flexible, articulated, hand-made figure of a fish fitted with garnet cabochon eyes has a hinged head that opens to an internal container with gilt finish and two unidentified stamped hallmarks. The work in .800 silver dates to the late 19th century.
Measures 1.5 x 4 x 1 inches. Total weight of 1.15 ozt.
Very good condition throughout, no damage, repair or heavy wear.
Provenance: The collection of Josephine Bird Hall (1888 - 1948) by descent to her son, the present owner. Josephine's father was a founder of Kansas City's Emery, Bird, Thayer Department Store.
