122: A SOUTHWEST PERSIAN KAMSEH AREA RUG CIRCA 1900

The wool on wool weaving centered by a blue field with a central ascending stem linking palmettes and leaves supported by a mass of polychrome 'chickens', animals flower heads and plants, all within a pale blue border enclosing continuous plants and flower heads, ivory secondary borders enclosing meandering vines linked to flower heads, horizontal dice end bands intact.
Measures 109 x 65 inches.
Nice intact original sides and flat woven ends. No damage, repair, mothing, stain or odor, noting wear to the knots throughout the field. A couple areas of fold wear and reweave to include a 5 x 2 inch area near upper left corner of the field. Scattered small bits of light visible when held up to sunlight.
Provenance: Phil Martin Estate. Phil's interest in Persian and Caucasian weavings began in the 1980's when he met Michael Grogan, who was still with Sotheby's at the time.
