A GOOD 19TH CENTURY SHIRVAN CAUCASIAN RUG

113: A GOOD 19TH CENTURY SHIRVAN CAUCASIAN RUG

The three diamonds with white stepped outline floating end-to-end on a blue field woven with a multitude of small vibrant human, bird, quadruped and other forms framed by four guard borders separated by barber poles, the whole woven in at least twelve vibrant colors, some of which have oxidized, the weft appears to include some silk.
Measures 58 x 45 inches.
Very good condition. Clean and odor free with intact edges, no damage, repair or stain, some edge wear and end gouges, good pile overall.
Provenance: Phil Martin Estate. Phil's interest in Persian and Caucasian weavings began in the 1980's when he met Michael Grogan, who was still with Sotheby's at the time.
