A FINE 12C. ORMOLU AND PORPHYRY NEOCLASSICAL URN LAMP

369: A FINE 12C. ORMOLU AND PORPHYRY NEOCLASSICAL URN LAMP

The large 19th century Louis XVI style urn, now a table lamp, with gilt bronze rim cast as a pleated ribbon over a laurel frieze encircling a red porphyry body on tall tripod base of bronze hooves supporting swags of grapes and goat's heads centered by a coiling snake - all raised on a three-sided gilt bronze and porphyry base. The hardware supports two lamp sockets. The casting and finish of the bronze is very fine quality and in the original finish.
Measures 32.5 x 8.5 x 8.5 inches overall, height to the top of the urn is 16.5 inches.
Very good working condition throughout, no damage, repair or heavy wear. The socket assembly lists slightly.
Provenance: The collection of Josephine Bird Hall (1888 - 1948) by descent to her son, the present owner. Josephine's father was a founder of Kansas City's Emery, Bird, Thayer Department Store.
