A 19TH C. FRENCH GILT BRONZE CLOCK WITH PORCELAIN

300: A 19TH C. FRENCH GILT BRONZE CLOCK WITH PORCELAIN

The Louis XVI style gilt bronze acanthus scrolls that flank the circular clock case on either side are embellished with acanthus buds and a hand painted porcelain portrait plaque topped by a porcelain urn-like finial. The clock movement in circular case stands on a gilt metal base with front frieze of hand painted porcelain plaques raised on six toupie feet. The brass plate time and strike movement without maker's marks is fronted by a fine, shiny porcelain enamel on copper dial having a Roman numeral chapter ring of hand painted numerals in cobalt blue. Since the images were taken, the pendulum has been returned to its proper position.

Good to very good condition, noting that some castings and decoration are loose in their positions, the back door grille is missing, a foot on the back rim is lost and there is a corresponding divot lower edge back side, the dial is in excellent condition with fine shine, no chips, cracks, repairs, scratches, hairlines, or areas of wear. Good intact running and chiming condition at the time of inspection. We cannot guarantee the running or timekeeping condition of timepieces once removed from the auction premises.
