FINE STILL LIFE OILS IN THE MANNER OF AN OLD MASTER

245: FINE STILL LIFE OILS IN THE MANNER OF AN OLD MASTER

(Circa 1800, or earlier.)
A fine quality oil on canvas still life of fruit with monkey and goldfinch, along with its companion painting of fruit with a parrot, each in the manner of Jean Baptiste Oudry (1686-1755), or perhaps that of Tobias Stranovius (1684-1756), or another Old Master painter known for the style, composition and quality of this pair are executed at a level that could warrant actual attribution. Neither is signed. Each is displayed in a later rococo frame.

When the current owner purchased the pair from Alastair A. Stair in New York 60 years ago, they were attributed to Jacob van Huysum (1688 - 1740) .
Each work measures 22.5 x 27, framed to 31 x 36.5 inches.
Very good professionally restored condition, each re-lined 19th or early 20th century, neither painting shows any sign of inpainting under UV light.
Provenance: A private Kansas City, Missouri collection.
