The oil on canvas by Russian-American Impressionist Louis Ritman is signed by him lower right front and the title is found on a 1940s exhibition label verso. This work was purchased at an auction of the Layne Christensen Company Corporate Collection by the consignor's father in 2014.

Exhibited: ARTISTS FOR VICTORY 2nd Annual Portrait of America Competition sponsored by Pepsi-Cola, 1945 or 1946.

The Artists For Victory exhibition was comprised of 150 contemporary paintings chosen by a jury of artists as the best in the Second Annual Nation-Wide Competition for American Artists. The exhibition catalog explains that, ''The 150 paintings in this exhibition were selected by a jury, elected by delegates from member societies of Artists-for-Victory, Inc., from about 5,000 canvases submitted in the ''Portrait-of-America'' competition which was open to all American artists. It is felt that this exhibition is representative of contemporary American painting.''




Canvas measures 20 x 40 with a framed size of 27.5 x 47.75 inches.
Very good original untouched condition. There are no issues of major scratches, losses, repairs, in-painting or touch-up as confirmed under UV light.
