This rare and striking nocturne of a 1930s adobe-lined street in Old Mexico is an outstanding example of the rich, velvety, darkly saturated aquatint etchings that Doel Reed is known for, and considered master of.

The work is signed in the plate with a date of 1937, and again by the artist in pencil below the image lower right; numbered 17 from an edition of only 25 prints on the lower left.





This image Night in Garcia was exhibited at the New York World's Fair in 1939.

No record of this image ever having been offered at auction could be found. No institutions list it in their collections. The mention of only one other example could be found. This print is exceedingly rare and very desirable.
Image measures 11 x 12.75, sheet is 13 x 17.5 with a framed size of 21.25 x 23.25 inches.
Very good condition, the full untrimmed sheet, not laid down, some toning in the margins, no damage, punctures, tears or repair; framed to archival standards in acid free mounts.
Provenance: Private Rossville, Kansas collection spanning two generations.
