Morning Train (a.k.a. Soldier's Farewell) (1943)
The lithograph published by Associated American Artists in an edition of 250 prints is signed by Benton in pencil below the image lower right and listed as Fath catalog number 58.

Benton's comments on this image in Fath reads: Soldier leaving a small plains town. This letter was also called 'Going West' which in soldiers argot meant going to die. The secondary title was dropped during the war years. Drawing of water tank, track and station made in late 1942. Also called 'Soldiers Farewell.'
Image measures 9.25 x 13.75, sheet size 11 x 14.75, the frame is 19 x 23 inches.
Good condition, noting trimmed margins, long strips of glue residue along the back side of each end visible mostly from the back side, faint toning around the image, minor spotting in the top margin, none of these are visible when matted and framed. The sheet is not laid down, there are no punctures, tears or repair.
Provenance: Private collection, Kansas City, Missouri.
