The outstanding Continental example, originally a bolted urn, is comprised of a three parts cased in thick white glass layered over colorless crystal and cut back in elaborate designs, the exposed crystal is embellished in delicate gold tracery and the white relief areas decorated in extremely well-executed hand painted vignettes of nature, hanging game and hunting trophies. Foliate studies and grape clusters finish the other panels. The quality of the cutting and of the hand painted decoration are both of a high caliber. Probably French or Bohemian origin.
Measures 32 x 19.5 inches.
Very good working condition, appropriate cloth shade of a later period, light gold wear overall as shown.
Provenance: A prominent Kansas City family's home at The Walnuts.
