THOMAS HART BENTON (1889-1975) PENCIL SIGNED LITHOGRAPH

42: THOMAS HART BENTON (1889-1975) PENCIL SIGNED LITHOGRAPH

Thomas Hart Benton (1889-1975)
Benton Farm (1972)
The lithograph published by Associated American Artists in an edition of 250 prints is signed by the artist in pencil below the image lower right and listed as Fath catalog number 87.

Benton's comments in Fath read: Our daughter belongs to one of those youth groups, or communes, which have sprung up over the United States in late years. They represent at sort of protest against the stultifying conventions over taking so much of our society. A number of those in her group wanted to try faming and found a good farm for sale out in mid Kansas. We bought this, two hundred and eighty one acres, and let them have a crack at running it. They are doing extraordinarily well. Though on the edge of the great plains, the country in this particular area of Kansas is broken. There are ridge and bottom lands and spring fed creeks. Here's the barn and the road out of the Benton farm.
Image measures 11.25 x 14.25, sheet is 16.25 x 19, framed size is 20.5 x 23.5 inches.
Very good to fine condition, the full untrimmed sheet, not laid down, no damage, stain, punctures, tears or repair, a very nice example.
Provenance: Private collection, Des Moines, Iowa.
