A RILEY WHITING (1785-1835) NEW ENGLAND TALL CLOCK

6167: A RILEY WHITING (1785-1835) NEW ENGLAND TALL CLOCK

The early 19th century, completely original, untouched survivor tall clock is topped by a slide-off bonnet with its original glass and a simple, primitive scroll pediment having flat posts at either end and between the scrolls, none of which shows any evidence of a finial ever being mounted there. The original painted wood dial with primitive landscape of a lakeside village over the Arabic numeral chapter ring having and seconds bit above maker's cartouche is surrounded by spandrels with rose clusters. The dial fronts the original wood works time-and-strike movement with its original weights and pendulum. The long, narrow pendulum box with central door is positioned over an outset base with its original tapered feet and scroll-cut skirt. The case is elaborately decorated in faux rosewood-like graining, faux line inlays, faux banding, faux stringing and a large faux diamond inlay on the door - all in original paint decoration covered in a substantial layer of untouched, dark, dry, crusty alligatoring.
Measures 83 x 17 x 10 inches.
Very good original condition, noting a repair to the right scroll which involves replacing the original piece, age splits to the rounded wood portion of the arch at top of the glass, a break to the original pewter hour hand, there are no other issues of damage, replacement or repair, light wear and nicks overall as shown.
