OIL ON CANVAS ATTRIBUTED JOSEF BUCHE (1848-1917)

95: OIL ON CANVAS ATTRIBUTED JOSEF BUCHE (1848-1917)

Josef Buche
(Fourth quarter of the 19th century)
At first glance a reference to Rebecca at the well, this composition appears to include a looking glass.

A clipping pasted verso is roughly translated as:

The ner pictures No. 51 contain a portrait of Jof. Büche's and an obituary for the brave painter who died on August 13, 1917) whose entire artistic estate is now being sold at the Dorotheum in Vienna thanks to a generous decision by his widow Käthe to support young aspiring artists. Jos. Büche, whose name was held in high regard in all circles of art experts, was born in 1848 as the son of the history painter Joj. Büche was born in Vienna, went to the Vienna Academy at the age of 13 and developed rapidly under the influence of Professor Wurzinger in terms of accuracy, fresh, rich coloring and individualization. At the beginning of the 1970s, Büche moved to Meran with his lovely young wife and here he found a broad field for his restless diligence. The character heads that come from this time and which he all matted from nature belong to the best that was ever offered in terms of character and accuracy of the individual. Many landscape sketches and genre pictures also date from the time of the Meran stay. Büche also distinguished himself as a portraitist and was one of the most sought-after masters of his time, who was supported to the best of their ability by the imperial family and many patrician families.--
