The Mokugyo painted wood 'drum' with dragon heads and fish scales is offered here with a three-tier assemblage of hanging bronze bells in graduated sizes with cut back designs of birds among foliage heightened in red above a band of key pattern encircling the lower rim in gold. A large, simple, antique bronze bell is included.
Measures 24 x 7.5 and 9 x 7.5 x 5.5 inches.
Good condition, though with wear, surface losses, dents and various other effects of age and use.
Provenance: The collection of Josephine Bird Hall (1888 - 1948) by descent to her son, the present owner. Josephine's father was a founder of Kansas City's Emery, Bird, Thayer Department Store.
