(Late 19th Century)
The finely modeled and detailed casting of Mercury in green-black patina seated on the original grey marble stand is after an example from antiquity created centuries before the time of Christ and found at the Villa of the Papyri in Herculaneum in 1758.
Measures 20 x 19 x 11.5 inches.
Very good original condition, there are no issues of damage or repair, light wear at some high points.
Provenance: The collection of Josephine Bird Hall (1888 - 1948) by descent to her son, the present owner. Josephine's father was a founder of Kansas City's Emery, Bird, Thayer Department Store.
