A FINE EARLY 20C. ITALIAN BRONZE FIGURE OF NARCISSUS

355: A FINE EARLY 20C. ITALIAN BRONZE FIGURE OF NARCISSUS

The quality casting in great detail and with attractive green/black patina is unusual in that a separately modeled sheet bronze fig leaf hangs from the hand of Narcissus, just below the goat skin wine bag on his left side. This casting is after the original discovered in Pompeii in 1862 and now in the Museo Nazionale, Naples.
Measures 24.5 x 11.5 x 10 inches.
Very good condition throughout, no damage, repair or heavy wear.
Provenance: The collection of Josephine Bird Hall (1888 - 1948) by descent to her son, the present owner. Josephine's father was a founder of Kansas City's Emery, Bird, Thayer Department Store.
