Lyman Byxbe (1886-1980)
The Breakers (Circa 1940-1945)
The first state edition etching with aquatint of atypical subject matter is signed by the artist in pencil below the image lower right and titled lower left. The catalog raisonne number is Crump 294.

While the catalog does not make mention of the technique, the clouds here look to be depicted through the aquatint technique.
Plate size 3 x 5.25, frame measures 12 x 13.5 inches.
Very good to fine condition, the full untrimmed sheet, not laid down, no damage, stain, puncture or repair; framed to archival standards in acid free mounts. Because this print is from a collection well-known by this auction firm for more than twenty years, it has not been removed from its framing for inspection. As with all lots we offer, the condition is guaranteed to be as stated or a full refund will be issued.
Provenance: A private collector described by the author of the catalog raisonne as a 'great source of info on Byxbe's prints.'
