Tom (Thomas) Ryan (1922-2011)
Skull And Century Plant (Late 20th Century)
The original work in casein on Crescent illustration board signed by the artist lower right depicts a steer skull on the desert floor nested in what an Alterman Gallery label verso titles Century Plant. A member of the agave family and native to the Southwest, the plant gets its name because it takes so long to flower, waiting 20 to 30 years before finally sending up a flower stalk as its final act, juxtaposed with the skull after its final act.
Sheet measures 18.5 x 10 with a framed size of 24.25 x 15.75 inches.
Very good condition, noting stain along the upper right side.
