The tasseled red cloth strap with native tanned hide fasteners on each end is adorned by a loom beaded panel of floral design. The seller attributes the work to Joan Charley. The Gwich'n (or Kutchin) are an Athabascan-speaking people indigenous to the Northwest coast, Alaska and Canada.
Measures 68 x 4.7 inches without beaded work. Beaded work is 13.5 inches to bottom of the yarn.
Very good, original, clean, intact, odor free condition free from damage or repair.
Provenance: The 40 year collection of Father Tom Wiederholt, Kansas City, Missouri. Tom was a close personal friend of scholar and curator Ralph 'Ted' Coe who advised Tom on most of his acquisitions.
