The detailed carving from pipestone, also known as catlinite, a mineral found only in Minnesota, USA and no where else on earth, is carved as the head of a male native with bird headdress, a mask on one side, and other engraved detail.
Measures 3 x 2 x 2 inches without stand.
Very good condition. There are no chips, cracks, repairs, scratches or areas of heavy wear.
Provenance: The 40 year collection of Father Tom Wiederholt, Kansas City, Missouri. Tom was a close personal friend of scholar and curator Ralph 'Ted' Coe who advised Tom on most of his acquisitions.
