A FINE 19C. BRONZE OF VENUS AS A BATHER AFTER ALLEGRAIN

259: A FINE 19C. BRONZE OF VENUS AS A BATHER AFTER ALLEGRAIN

Venus as a Bather (Third quarter of the 19th Century)
The unsigned bronze casting in dark brown patina after French sculptor Christophe-Gabriel Allegrain (1710-1795) bears an authentic mark of the French foundry established by Jean-Batiste Maximilien Delafontaine in the 18th century. By the middle 19th century, the foundry was run by his grandson Auguste-Maximilien Delafontaine. Castings from this period bear the founder's mark of A:D under a five-point star and the name DELAFONTAINE, as seen here.
Measures 22.5 inches.
Very good condition throughout, no damage, repair or wear.
