263: A 19C. CONTINENTAL GILT BRONZE OFFICER'S CLOCK

The fine French or Swiss gilt bronze carriage type Pendule d'Officier or Officer's Clock with time and strike brass plate movement fronted by a porcelain enamel dial having hand painted Arabic numeral chapter ring divided by quarter hour markers and set with ornate openwork hands having gilt finish and hand engraved decoration. The case, topped by a swivel oval fruit motif handle over applied casting of acorns (symbol of strength and power), is further embellished by applied mounts of florals, acanthus and rosette castings in high detailed relief, the whole raised on four adjustable coined edge toupie feet. The length of the pendulum's swing is regulated by silk around a thumb screw and each of the four feet can be adjusted for leveling.
Measures 8.5 x 5 x 4 inches.
Very good cosmetic condition free from damage, wear or repair, including the porcelain enamel on copper dial which is free from chips, repairs or hairline cracks. There are minor surface scratches near one winding hole. The movement is intact and strikes the bell soundly and freely, the exact running and timekeeping condition is unknown.
