The carved and painted cedar depiction of Jonah being saved from drowning by the big fish sent by God. The figure is ornamented in traditional motifs associated with NW Coast carvings, and the mouth is set with what appear to be elk teeth or perhaps other fossilized pieces of some other origin. The artist's carved signature is found on the underside.

Gary Rice is a very well-known Kwakiutl carver of totem poles, masks and other traditional crafts. Records indicate his birth date as 1935 or 1939.
Measures 13.5 x 6.75 x 3.5 inches.
Very good condition throughout, no damage, repair or heavy wear.
