A FINE LARGE NICELY WOVEN NAVAJO RUG

9: A FINE LARGE NICELY WOVEN NAVAJO RUG

This exceptional rug displays stepped and latch hooked ivory medallions trimmed in black on an open field of variegated natural wools that, with the effects of the weaver's lazy lines, creates the striking look of a cubist painting. The floating medallions with serrated devices in the centers are enclosed a zig-zag minor border and an ivory guard border with interlocking triangles framed by black with a hint of transition at each end in the form of gold bands along each short side.
Measures 85 x 55 inches.
Very good to fine condition. The handle is good and the weaving lays nice, flat and straight, the piece is odor free with intact edges, two short corner tassels, complete intact ends, no damage or repair.

There are two small holes as shown in the images, one being backlit by strong light. The backlighting did not reveal any other issues.

The A side is very nice with no sign of discoloration and as stated, no damage, repair or heavy wear.

Side B has had a Velcro hanging strip whip-stitched along one long edge and there are three spots of discoloration. Two areas have the look of yarn color variation as opposed to a stain. The color difference follows weft patterns. There are no odors and no hardening. These areas are only subtly visible on the opposite side, The third bit of discoloration is a bluish color cast the size of a quarter dollar.
