AN UNUSUAL ACOMA OLLA FORM CIRCA 1900 - AS FOUND

93: AN UNUSUAL ACOMA OLLA FORM CIRCA 1900 - AS FOUND

This curious example originally has a narrow and elongated oval mouth opening unlike almost any other olla example. Unfortunately it is hard to know exactly what the original design of the upper portion was since it appears this piece has been reduced, or cut down, possibly as a result of damage. The well-painted design which includes various heart motifs are truncated abruptly at the mouth of the jar indicating the the original form, assumably somewhat taller and shaped, has been reduced.
Measures 6.75 x 9.5 x 9.75 inches.
As found with reduction and overall spalling along with other effects of age and handling.
Provenance: The Susan Koehn Estate Trust Newton, Kansas
