GENERAL MOTORS EMD PAINTING ATTR HARRY BOCKEWITZ

25: GENERAL MOTORS EMD PAINTING ATTR HARRY BOCKEWITZ

(1940-1944)
This original tempera painting with airbrush applications in the style of Harry Bockewitz looks to be another 'just in case' painting (like others in this collection) done without reference to a railroad name or logo but with room for logos in case some railroad official liked the scheme. In fact, no railroad used a paint scheme at all like this one. It is worth noting that all of the backup ''just-in-case'' paintings found in this collection feature FT locomotives. One of them is dated 1940 and another 1944 and they were probably all done in that period. While the FT was an incredibly popular locomotive, it was just one model. In the post-war era, GM's stylists had to deal with multiple Es, Fs, GPs, and other kinds of locomotives, and probably didn't have time to do speculative paintings such as this one.
Measures 20 x 26 inches overall.
Very good condition, noting three small pieces of wax paper stuck to the face of the painting, there are no scratches, flakes, inpainting or other issues of condition.
Provenance: The Fred Roniger Estate Collection.
