143: EUGENIE WIREMAN (1874-1961) ORIGINAL OIL ILLUSTRATION

Eugenie M. Wireman (Philadelphia, 1874-1961)
Girl in Green Dress (April 1907)
The original oil painting on artist's board is signed lower left front and retains the original publisher's label verso for St. Nicholas Magazine volume 34, issue number 6, April 1907 for which this composition served as the cover illustration.

Eugenie Wireman was an accomplished free-lance artist whose work illustrated the covers of not only St. Nicholas Magazine, but also The Saturday Evening Post, Lady's Home Journal, Collier's, Woman's Home Companion, The Country Gentleman and others.

Eugenie 'Jenny' Wireman studied for a short time abroad and later with the legendary Brandywine School instructor Howard Pyle, as did the prolific illustrators N.C. Wyeth and Jessie Wilcox Smith. Ms. Wireman flourished in the early 20th century at a time when female artists faced challenges making a living as an artist.
Measures 21.75 x 21.25 inches.
Very good professionally restored condition, no chips, scratches of losses, minor inpainting as shown in the images.
Provenance: This, and another work by Eugenie Wireman, was found roadside 60 years ago and held in the same family since that time, as related in a 2014 taping of The Antiques Roadshow.
